How Animals Stay Warm

We have many themes for study in August, two of which are mammals and the Arctic/Antarctica. This fun activity from the science kiddo website combines the two in a great science experiment. It communicates how animals stay warm when it’s incredibly cold, and allowing the children to excellence it first hand. All you need is a bowl of ice water and some shortening or lard. The child gets a plentiful amount on their finger and places it in the cold water. The fat (blubber) will insulate their finger from the cold.
